Tier I (Computer Based Examination)

Exam Pattern : Exam Pattern for the Written Exam is as Follows:-

  • Computer Based Exam Will be Objective Type.
  • The Computer Based Multiple Choice written examination will consist of following subjects:
    1. English Language, Grammar & Comprehension,
    2. Quantitative Aptitude & Numerical Ability,
    3. General Intelligence & Reasoning,
    4. General Awareness including Finance & Accounting & Statistics
  • The Time Duration of Exam will be 03 Hours (180 Minutes), 240 Minutes for Candidates using scribe.
  • The questions will be set both in English & Hindi except for English Grammar, Language & Comprehension.
  • There will be negative marking of 0.25 for each wrong answer.

Exam Syllabus : Exam Syllabus for Examination is given below :-

English Language, Grammar & Comprehension: Questions in this component will be designed to test the candidate’s understanding and knowledge of English Language and will be based on spot the error, fill in the blanks, synonyms, antonyms, spelling/ detecting misspelled words, idioms & phrases, one word substitution, improvement of sentences, active/ passive voice of verbs, conversion into direct/ indirect narration, shuffling of sentence parts, shuffling of sentences in a passage, cloze passage & comprehension passage.

Quantitative Aptitude & Numerical Ability: The questions will be designed to test the ability of appropriate use of numbers and number sense of the candidate. The scope of the test will be computation of Whole Numbers, Decimals, Fractions and Relationships between numbers, Percentage. Ratio & Proportion, Square Roots, Averages, Interest, Profit and Loss, Discount, Partnership Business, Mixture and Alligation, Time and distance, Time & Work, Basic Algebraic Identities of School Algebra & Elementary Surds, Graphs of Linear Equations, Triangle and its various kinds of Centres, Congruence and similarity of Triangles, Circle and its Chords, Tangents, Angles subtended by Chords of a Circle, Common Tangents to two or more circles, Triangle, Quadrilaterals, Regular Polygons, Circle, Right Prism,Right Circular Cone, Right Circular Cylinder, Sphere, Hemispheres, Rectangular Parallelepiped, Regular Right Pyramid with Triangular or Square Base, Trigonometric Ratio, Degree and Radian Measures, Standard Identities, Complementary Angles, Heights and Distances, Histogram, Frequency Polygon, Bar diagram & Pie chart.

General Intelligence & Reasoning: It would include questions of both verbal and non-verbal type. General Awareness including Finance, Accounting & Statistics: Questions in this component will be aimed at testing the candidates‟ general awareness of the environment around him and its application to society. Questions will also be designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of every day observations and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of any educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighbouring countries especially pertaining History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Policy & Scientific Research.

Financial Accounting: Nature and scope, Limitations of Financial Accounting, Basic concepts and Conventions, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

Basic concepts of accounting: Single and double entry, Books of original Entry, Bank Reconciliation, Journal, ledgers, Trial Balance, Rectification of Errors, Manufacturing, Trading, Profit & loss Appropriation Accounts, Balance Sheet Distinction between Capital and Revenue Expenditure, Depreciation Accounting, Valuation of Inventories, Non-profit organisations Accounts, Receipts and Payments and Income & Expenditure Accounts, Bills of Exchange, Self Balancing Ledgers.

Indian Economy:

  • Nature of the Indian Economy Role of different sectors-Role of Agriculture, Industry and Services-their problems and growth;
  • National Income of India-Concepts of national income, Different methods of measuring national income.
  • Population-Its size, rate of growth and its implication on economic growth.
  • Poverty and unemployment-Absolute and relative poverty, types, causes and incidence of unemployment.
  • Infrastructure-Energy, Transportation,Communication.

Economic Reforms in India: Economic reforms since 1991; Liberalisation, Privatisation, Globalisation and Disinvestment.

Money and Banking: Monetary/ Fiscal policy-Role and functions of Reserve Bank of India; functions of commercial Banks/ RRB/ Payment Banks.

Statistics

Collection, Classification and Presentation of Statistical Data – Primary and Secondary Data, Methods of Data collection; Tabulation of Data; Graphs and Charts; Frequency Distributions; Diagrammatic Presentation of Frequency Distributions.

Measures of Central Tendency – Common measures of central tendency –mean median and mode; Partition values-quartiles, deciles, percentiles.

Measures of Dispersion- Common measures dispersion –range, quartile deviations, mean deviation and standard deviation; Measures of relative dispersion.

Moments, Skewness and Kurtosis – Different types of moments and their relationship; meaning of skewness and kurtosis; different measures of skewness and kurtosis.

Correlation and Regression – Scatter diagram; simple correlation coefficient; simple regression lines; Spearman’s rank correlation; Measures of association of attributes; Multiple regression; Multiple and partial correlation (For three variables only).

Probability Theory – Meaning of probability; Different definitions of probability; Conditional probability; Compound probability; Independent events; Bayes’ theorem.

Random Variable and Probability Distributions – Random variable; Probability functions; Expectation and Variance of a random variable; Higher moments of a random variable; Binomial, Poisson, Normal and Exponential distributions; Joint distribution of two random variable (discrete).

Sampling Theory – Concept of population and sample; Parameter and statistic, Sampling and non-sampling errors; Probability and non-probability sampling techniques (simple random sampling, stratified sampling, multistage sampling, multiphase sampling, cluster sampling, systematic sampling, purposive sampling, convenience sampling and quota sampling); Sampling distribution (statement only); Sample size decisions.

Statistical Inference – Point estimation and interval estimation, Properties of a good estimator, Methods of estimation (Moments method, Maximum likelihood method, Least squares method), Testing of hypothesis, Basic concept of testing, Small sample and large sample tests, Tests based on Z, t, Chi-square and F statistic, Confidence intervals.

Analysis of Variance – Analysis of one-way classified data and two-way classified data.

Time Series Analysis – Components of time series, Determinations of trend component by different methods, Measurement of seasonal variation by different methods.

Index Numbers – Meaning of Index Numbers, Problems in the construction of index numbers, Types of index number, Different formulae, Base shifting and splicing of index numbers, Cost of living Index Numbers, Uses of Index Numbers.

Tier II (Computer Proficiency Test)

  • The Time Duration of Examination Will be 60 Minutes.
  • Maximum Marks for CPT Will be 100 Marks.

Exam Syllabus : Exam Syllabus for Examination is given below :-

The ICCR will hold Computer Proficiency Test (CPT), comprising of three modules:

  • Word Processing,
  • Spread Sheet and
  • Generation of Slides.
  • The CPT will be conducted in the manner decided by the ICCR.
  • No exemption from CPT is allowed for any category of PwD candidates.
  • CPT will be of qualifying nature.

Note: Detailed instructions regarding CPT will be provided by ICCR to eligible candidates declared qualified for appearing in the CPT.

Assistant Programme Officer / Assistant

Exam Pattern : Exam Pattern for the Written Exam is as Follows:-

  • Computer Based Exam Will be Objective Type.

  • The Time Duration of Exam will be 02 Hours (120 Minutes), 160 Minutes for Candidates using scribe.
  • The questions will be set both in English and Hindi for Paper II, III and IV.
  • There will be negative marking of 0.25 for each wrong answer.

Number Systems: Computation of Whole Number, Decimal and Fractions, Relationship between numbers.

Fundamental arithmetical operations: Percentages, Ratio and Proportion, Square roots, Averages, Interest (Simple and Compound), Profit and Loss, Discount, Partnership Business, Mixture and Allegation, Time and distance, Time and work.

Algebra: Basic algebraic identities of School Algebra and Elementary Surds (simple problems) and Graphs of Linear Equations.

Geometry: Familiarity with elementary geometric figures and facts: Triangle and its various kinds of centres, Congruence and similarity of triangles, Circle and its chords, tangents, angles subtended by chords of a circle, common tangents to twoor more circles.

Mensuration: Triangle, Quadrilaterals, Regular Polygons, Circle, Right Prism, Right Circular Cone, Right Circular Cylinder, Sphere, Hemispheres, Rectangular Parallelepiped, Regular Right Pyramid with Triangular or Square Base.

Trigonometry: Trigonometry, Trigonometric Ratios, Complementary Angles, Height and Distances (simple problems only) Standard Identities like Sin2 + Cos2 =1 etc.,

Statistical Charts: Use of Tables and Graphs: Histogram, Frequency Polygon, Bar-Diagram, Pie-chart.

General Awareness: Questions are designed to test the candidate’s general awareness of the environment around him and its application to society. Questions are also designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of an educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighbouring countries especially pertaining to History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General policy and scientific research.

For VH candidates of 40% and above visual disability, there will be no component of Maps/ Graphs/ Diagrams/ Statistical Data in the General Intelligence and Quantitative Aptitude parts.

Tier –II

Skill Test/ Typing Test including knowledge of computer

  • Skill Test/ Typing Test for the qualified candidates in Tier I examination will be conducted on computers provided by the ICCR or its authorized agency.
  • Skill Test/ Typing Test will be conducted in the cities where Regional Offices of the ICCR are located or as decided by theICCR.•Skill Test/ Typing Test will be of qualifying nature.
  • Errors in the Skill Test will be calculated up to 2 decimal places.
  • The medium of Typing Test will be Hindi or English. The candidates will have to opt for the medium of Typing Test (i.e. either Hindi or English) in the online Application Form.
  • The choice of Typing Test given by the candidate in the online Application Form shall be treated as final and no change in the medium of Typing Test will be entertained later.
  • Candidates opting for English medium should have typing speed of 35 words per minute (w.p.m.) and those opting for Hindi medium should have typing speed of 30 words per minute (w.p.m.). 35 w.p.m. and 30 w.p.m. correspond to about 10500 key depressions per hour and about 9000 key depressions per hour respectively.
  • The speed will be adjudged on the accuracy of typing on the Computer of a given text passage in 10 minutes.
  • Candidates eligible for scribe as per Para 7 (i) and 7 (ii) will be given compensatory time of 5 minutes. Therefore duration of Typing Test for such candidates will be 15 minutes.
  • Passage Dictators will be provided to those VH candidates for the Typing test who have opted for Scribe in the online Application Form. The Passage Dictator will read out the passage to VH candidate within the allotted time period.
  • Persons with Disabilities candidates who claim to be permanently unfit to take the Typing Test because of a physical disability may, with the prior approval of the ICCR, be exempted from the requirement of appearing and qualifying at such test, provided such a candidate submits a Certificate in the prescribed format (Annexure-XI) to the ICCR from the competent Medical Authority, i.e. the Civil Surgeon of a Government Health Care Institution declaring him/ her to be permanently unfit for the Typing Test because of a physical disability. In addition, such candidates must substantiate their claim by furnishing the relevant Medical Certificate in the prescribed format as per Annexure-VIII to Annexure-X of the Notice of Examination, as applicable, at the time of Typing Test. Otherwise their claim for seeking exemption from Typing Test will not be entertained by the ICCR.

Skill Test in Stenography for Sr. Stenographer

The candidates who are shortlisted in the Computer Based Examination in Tier I for the next stage will have to appear for the Skill Test in Stenography. The candidates will be given one dictation for 10 minutes in English or Hindi (as opted by the candidates in the online Application Form) at the speed of 100 words per minute (w.p.m) for the post of Sr. Stenographer. The matter will have to be transcribed on computer. The transcription time is as follows:

Skill Test in Stenography for Jr. Stenographer

The candidates who are shortlisted in the Computer Based Examination in Tier I for the next stage will have to appear for the Skill Test in Stenography. The candidates will be given one dictation for 10 minutes in English or Hindi (as opted by the candidates in the online Application Form) at the speed of 80 words per minute (w.p.m) for the post of Jr. Stenographer. The matter will have to be transcribed on computer. The transcription time is as follows:

NOTE: Candidates who opt to take the Stenography Test in Hindi will be required to learn English Stenography and vice versa after their appointment, failing which their probation may not be cleared by Appointing Authority. Candidates have to work as English/ Hindi Stenographers as per the functional requirement of ICCR irrespective of the medium of Skill Test of candidate during the examination.
